In learning to master this new landscape, a lot of working musicians get left by the wayside. We spend all of our time writing, producing and creating thinking that our credits will be known and help us get more work. Well . . . guess what? It seems that people don't read credits anymore since they really don't buy Cd's. When you download a song, that's all you get . . . the song. There is rarely any info on the writer, producer and definitely not the musicians. I continue to work with some of the greatest musicians around but no one seems to be aware of who they are or at least how diverse their histories are. We have to take matters into our own hands and instead of waiting for people to find us, WE have to let them know. It's up to us to use this new landscape to keep the public, agents and promoters aware of who we are and what we've done and are doing. This information can directly impact our financial bottom line. It's not like it used to be when a promoter would do research on the musicians and be in the loop of who the REAL guys were. It's now all about who is selling themselves the most and this is time consuming but if we don't invest the time in having an updated website with our credits, a presence on YouTube and other social media outlets, we are just wasting time. The business will never go back to what it was and for the most part that's not all a bad thing. We just have to be very aware of the business involved in building and promoting our image and music. Remember it's ALL up to US to let them know who we are and what we've done. We can no longer allow others to define us and set our value as a result of their limited definition and knowledge. Enjoy the journey.
